CORFU’S SECRETS
Thanks to its nature and architectural treasures, Corfu is considered to be one of the best Greek islands. Odysseus went ashore here and happily dwelled on the island for a while, since there is a lot to discover: mountains, long stretches of coast with sandy beaches, dense vegetation, stunning landscapes, traditional villages, Byzantine churches, museums, Venetian fortresses and lively holiday resorts.
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BEACHES
Corfu’s beaches, in all of their variety, belong to the most beautiful beaches of the Ionian Sea. Most of the larger bays are now resorts, which offer entertainment, shopping, cafes, restaurants and bars. From the small bay with a pebbled beach, to the long sandy beach – you should definitely get to know some of Corfu’s endless variety. It is worth being mobile, with a rented car, a scooter or by bus – this way you can discover the island.
TOUR TO DISCOVER THE OLD TOWN
Corfu town, the capital of the island, is one of the most beautiful Greek towns. The mix of different architectural styles gives it a unique charm that is particularly reminiscent of Italian towns – above all Venice. Both a day visit with a shopping tour through the many small, pretty shops as well as an evening visit including a stroll through the romantic alleys should be on your list of activities.
A DAY AT THE BEACH
The beach of Kommeno Bay can be reached with just a 10-minute walk down a steep stone staircase – this is where Grectotels Daphnilia Bay and Eva Palace are located. The gently sloping sandy beach is bordered by olive and pine trees and offers a wonderful view of the east coast of Corfu. Dassia is the nearest holiday resort with a roughly 3km long sandy beach. The sea is shallow near the beach and is therefore ideal for water-skiing and for families with children. There are swimming platforms and food services. Dassia is about a 5-minute drive or 25-minute walk away from Hotel Nefeli.
HIKING ON CORFU
The 220 kilometre long Corfu Trail is a hiking trail along Corfu’s most beautiful and untouched areas. The Corfu Trail is well signposted and offers routes that can be walked in an hour. If you like to hike, Corfu is the perfect holiday destination. You can get information, tips and maps at our reception.
VISIT THE DONKEY RESCUE SANCTUARY - Corfu Donkey Rescue
Donkeys and Greece – they simply belong together – and yet one encounters less and less of them. Only very rarely can you see a working donkey standing in the olive grove or walking towards the stable. One of the few donkey sanctuaries in Greece is located on Corfu: Corfu Donkey Rescue – about 40 retired working donkeys live and enjoy their old age here. The farm is open to visitors between 10am and 5pm daily. Definitely worth visiting!
